First post of the new year. Didn't get to update much up until now because opportunities finally came through towards the end of last year. I still can't show them right now but I could say that throughout that experience I gained more than the compensation of money. I got to push boundaries and needless to say got to prove to myself that I can do better. I've been wallowing for most of last year wondering if I had what it takes to be a working freelance artist and I guess all doubt and worry came to pass after my first happy, satisfied client. :) Looking forward to what more may come in 2013.

Concepts
In the spirit of Treasure Planet, Firefly, and Mass Effect I was inspired to form my own crew. Some concept sketches to be finalized for the folio.

Photo studies
Spent the Saturday doing these. While I'm not working I seriously need to step up with doing more studies. Stock reference photos from http://syccas-stock.deviantart.com/

LOTV
Found some old files. I started these sketches over a year ago for a revamp of original characters of a personal project with a friend. Right now, the project is in hiatus due to our schedules. I decided to color some of the heads for future reference if ever we'd get the time to proceed.

Sigbin
The Sigbin or Sigben is a creature in Philippine mythology said to come out at night to suck the blood of victims from their shadows. It is said to walk backwards with its head lowered between its hind legs, and to have the ability to become invisible to other creatures, especially humans. It resembles a hornless goat, but has very large ears which it can clap like a pair of hands and a long, flexible tail that can be used as a whip. The Sigbin is said to emit a nauseating odor.

Art Order Evolution Challenge
Update: Results are out and I placed 2nd. There were a lot of awesome entries and I'm thoroughly shocked to be chosen to be among the top 5.
A few weeks back I got the time to participate on this challenge posted by ArtOrder. More details here. It was a character concept for a young wizard named Lyssa garbed in white trimmed with gold.
Had a blast doing this challenge for which I also got to be immersed in this art community called WIPNation where other participants throw in their own interpretation of Lyssa, share thoughts on the process of conceptualizing the character, and also offer critiques and ideas that help improve them.
The line-up for the other awesome entries can be found here.

OHAI
Obligatory post after a very long time just so you can see I'm still alive. Haha.
Quick doodle, taking a break from work.
and here's a WIP for a personal project. It's a larger canvas, cropped the area I'm working on.

Watercolor Practice
Gave my Wacom a break and went back to traditional media. I haven't touched watercolors since grade school and it went really bad the first time of using it again but there's progress.

Hello Blogspot!
Hello new blog! I've decided to migrate blogs from Wordpress to blogger as it's a lot more convenient to keep track of blogs that I follow as most of them are from Blogspot. I was planning on importing posts from my previous blog, and I did, but the thing is, about 90% of the posts had to be edited to fit the new layout here. I managed to publish 6 entries before I gave up. I'd probably get around and publish all of them though.
Since I missed doing portraits, I got around to working on this last weekend. Used Painter for most of the work, PS for the color adjustments and finishing touches. Random flowers are random.
